St. Neots

Concept

The clients wanted a more user friendly terrace where they could entertain more easily with access into the garden. The original terrace was a large concrete structure that dominated the garden space but was not quite wide enough to sit on comfortably. They specifically wanted to introduce wildlife into the garden and create a more biodiverse environment, so with that in mind I have used gabions for the main retaining wall structure. Gabions by their very nature provide areas for bugs and insects to crawl into, but there is also a lower wall that contains a gabion seat within the wall and a bug-hotel framed by the sleepers. There are posts with holes for any lone bees to make their home too. This garden will be a buzz with pollinators as there are pollinator strips of planting along with fruit trees to provide year round interest and food.

This garden will be full of birds, bees and many other insects. As well as providing the family with areas to entertain, play, work and relax.
