Concept

Maximise the potential of the site by taking in the broad and natural landscape behind. Integrate naturalised areas into the design to increase biodiversity and appropriate planting for parts of the garden in a flood zone. Large terraced areas wrap around the house enabling the owners to sit and relax and enjoy the enhanced vistas of the Cambridgeshire countryside and River Cam, which runs along the foot of the garden. Sweeping curves of long grasses are used to blur the separation of the house and immediate garden area into the wider landscape. Improve accessibility around the site by creating linking pathways. Be respectful of the history of the farm and the surrounding countryside by creating areas that look mature and well established.

Sweeping terraces surround the farmhouse, leading on to wide grassy steps dotted with loosely clipped Carpinus betulus that flow down towards the lake
